Oak Island Airplane Recovery

Work completed
On Saturday evening August 2, 2025 Capt. Evan was patrolling the waters around Oak Island and Southport. Capt. Evan got word there was an aircraft in the water off Oak Island. He quickly responded and was on scene. Capt. Evan was able to tie into the aircraft, secure the aircraft, and keep it from sinking and causing any debris or environmental issues.Thereafter, he carefully towed the aircraft around Oak Island, through the Cape Fear River inlet and to the Fish Factor Road boat ramp in Oak Island. After communicating with the FAA and securing the aircraft, FML personnel arrived the next morning with their rollback truck. The aircraft was removed from the water, onto the truck, and transported over land to the Cape Fear Regional Jetport for storage and investigation by the FAA. It was a successful operation as the pilot was rescued and the aircraft was towed to shore without creating a maritime and environmental hazard.
